Oppositions can be filed by holders of earlier rights defined in the Slovak Act on Trademarks. These are most commonly the owners of earlier registered marks that conflict with yours.

Beyond these owners, oppositions can be based on other earlier rights such as well-known marks, earlier trade names, or a protected designation of origin or geographical indication.

Separately from formal opposition, any person may file observations (pripomienky) drawing the office's attention to absolute grounds that should prevent registration. Observations do not include the observer in the proceedings, whereas an opposition does.
