Any sign capable of distinguishing the goods or services of one business from those of others can be registered as a Slovak trademark, provided it can be represented clearly in the register and meets the registrability requirements.

Eligible signs include words, names, slogans, logos, letters, numerals, colors, the shape of goods or their packaging, and sounds, among others. Since the 2018 modernization of Slovak trademark law, the requirement for graphic representation was replaced by the broader standard of clear and precise representation, opening the door to non-traditional marks such as sound and motion marks.

To be registrable, the sign must be distinctive, must not be purely descriptive or generic, and must not conflict with public policy, accepted principles of morality, or other protected signs.
