Can I use the word and image trademarks separately if I register them together?

It is not possible to register a wordmark and a figurative mark at the same time in one application. However, what is possible is filing a figurative mark that includes both the logo and the name of your mark (think Microsoft's logo with four squares next to the brand name).

In that case, the trademark would only protect the exact version filed with an IP office, i.e. this combined mark. You wouldn't be able to use the ® symbol separately with the word and the logo, only with the combination. If you would like to have protection for both, you have to file two separate applications.
