The right choice depends on what your brand actually relies on for recognition.

If your brand is primarily built around a distinctive name and that name is the first thing consumers associate with your business, a wordmark is the priority. It protects the name in any visual form and provides the broadest coverage for the textual element of your brand.

If your brand relies heavily on a distinctive visual identity and the logo is your primary identifier, a figurative mark protects that. If both the name and visual identity are central, registering both separately provides the most complete coverage.

For most businesses, the name should be protected first, since it is the element most likely to be copied and the hardest to rebrand around. Not sure which applies to your situation? Book afree consultation with Trama.
