I still have to create the logo and I would rather have the business name secured before I begin doing so. Can you advise in terms of trademark strategy?

If you wish to protect your brand name before you create your logo, you can easily do so.

You can file an application for a wordmark in the territory where you wish to obtain trademark protection. Once you apply, you will be protected against anyone who copies your brand. Even if someone uses your brand name with a specific font, you can claim infringement.

Once your logo is ready, you can file a second application that will specifically protect the logo. This way, you will fully protect both the logo and the brand name.

Bear in mind a trademark is valid for ten years, and you cannot make any adjustments to it after filing, so be sure to submit your logo once you are confident this is the version you'll be using in connection with your goods or services.
