Does a logo trademark protect all versions of the logo?

If you decide to register a logo, the trademark protection applies to the exact version of your logo that was submitted to the respective IP office.

However, if someone uses a confusingly similar version of your logo within the same business area, you will be protected. In such a case, your legal representation can approach the 3rd party and ask them to stop using the logo, as it poses an infringement on your registered trademark.

If you decide to make changes to your logo, it is advisable to register it again, just so the newest version has the full scope of protection. The symbol ® can be used only with the exact version of the trademark registered with an IP office. If you use multiple logo variations, you can use the ™ symbol with them.
