Is it possible to file a combined trademark in Australia, or do I need to submit separate filings for the wordmark and the logo?

Yes, in Australia, you can file a brand name + logo as a single combined mark within one application. But, this kind of mark protects the name and logo as used together, not each element independently.

If your logo includes your brand name as a prominent element, the name will receive some implicit protection through the figurative mark registration. But for unambiguous standalone protection of the name in any visual form, a separate wordmark application is advisable. For complete coverage of both elements independently, two separate applications; one wordmark and one figurative mark; provide the strongest position.
