Does a trademark have to be the same as my business name?

It's ok for your trademark and your business name to differ. Generally, trademark protection applies to brand names/logos, product names/logos, or slogans. Your company might be registered under one name; however, the name of your brand might differ. It is also possible to own multiple brands under the same company, with a trademark for each of them.

You might also prefer not to tie the names together if you are in the process of setting up your business and don't have the business name yet. In that case, you can register the trademark under your name and possibly transfer the ownership of the trademark later.
