The three trademark symbols commonly used are:

  1. TM Symbol (™): The TM symbol represents an unregistered trademark. It is used to indicate that you are claiming rights to a specific mark and using it as a trademark, even if it is not yet officially registered. The TM symbol can be used on goods, packaging, or promotional materials.
  2. SM Symbol (℠): The SM symbol represents an unregistered service mark. It is similar to the TM symbol but specifically denotes the use of a mark for services rather than physical goods. The SM symbol is used to indicate that you are claiming rights to a service mark and using it as an identifier for your services, even without registration.
  3. Registered Trademark Symbol (®): The Registered Trademark symbol is used for a trademark that has been officially registered with the relevant trademark authority, such as the USPTO in the United States. The ® symbol indicates that the mark is a registered trademark and enjoys the full legal protection and exclusive rights granted by registration. It can only be used after the mark has completed the registration process and been officially granted registered status.

It's important to note that the TM and SM symbols can be used without registration, while the ® symbol should only be used after obtaining official registration for your mark.
