How do I search for existing EU trademarks before applying?

Before filing an EU trademark application, search the EUIPO's eSearch plus tool or the broader TMview database, both of which are free and publicly accessible.

Search for marks that are identical or similar to yours in the same or related Nice Classification classes. Pay attention not only to exact matches but also to marks that are visually, phonetically, or conceptually similar, as these can form the basis of an opposition.

A preliminary search conducted independently is a useful first step, but assessing the legal risk posed by similar marks requires professional judgment. A trademark attorney or specialist search service can provide a more thorough analysis, including marks in national registers that may not appear prominently in a basic search.
