Will a change of font have an impact on word mark registration?

No, if we are talking about word marks specifically, a font change won't impact registration. A word mark represents only the brand name, slogan, or tagline and the stylised elements are not considered distinctive.

If you want to include a stylised element, you can register a figurative mark (logo) instead. This option can sometimes improve your chances of successful registration since it's inherently harder for a word mark to be distinctive. However, bear in mind that if you choose this option, you will be bound to use the exact version of your logo trademark without changes.
