The registration process takes between 3 and 18 months on average, depending on the country, but in some countries can go up to as much as 27 months.

The whole process has multiple stages, the length of which also differs considerably:

  1. The examination period, where the intellectual property office assesses all formal requirements. This process usually takes between 1 and 10 months, but some countries reserve even more time.
  2. Publishing the trademark for oppositions, which is a period during which other trademark holders and competition in general can come forward to raise oppositions against the trademark in question and object to its registration. This window is typically between 1 and 3 months long.

Despite the length of this process, it is important to acknowledge that the protection offered by trademark registration starts from the filing date, not the registration date (provided the registration is successful).
