The UK uses the Nice Classification system, which comprises 45 classes; Classes 1–34 for goods and Classes 35–45 for services. The UKIPO applies the same class structure used by most countries worldwide.

The UKIPO maintains its own list of accepted goods and services terminology, which can differ slightly from the accepted terms in other jurisdictions such as the EUIPO or USPTO. Applications should use UKIPO-recognized terminology to avoid receiving an identification of goods/services office action.
