If you want to protect your trademark in only a single color, you can claim colors as a distinctive element of the mark. To do that, the application must include a written description of the colors and their precise color codes. The EUIPO accepts internationally recognized color identification systems, including Pantone, RAL, and RGB.

The color claim must appear in the mark description field of the application. A vague reference to "blue" or "red" is not sufficient; the specific shade must be identified with a standard color code.

Claiming a color limits the protection to the mark as shown in those specific colors. An application filed without a color claim is protected in black and white, which is considered to cover the mark in all color combinations.
