The EU uses the Nice Classification system, with 45 classes; Classes 1–34 for goods and Classes 35–45 for services. All 27 EU member states apply the same classification in their national trademark systems, as does the EUIPO for EU trademark applications.

The EUIPO provides the TMclass database, which lists accepted goods and services terminology. Applications using only pre-approved TMclass terminology are eligible for the EUIPO's fast-track examination process, which typically completes examination within one month of filing.
