When should I start with trademark watching?

After your trademark application is filed. Your rights begin from the filing date, not the registration date, so the protection you can exercise through an opposition is active from day one. Starting watching at the filing stage means you are covered from the earliest point at which your rights exist.

If you’re tight on budget, then consider starting once your mark is registered. The filing-to-registration period is typically several months to over a year, during which a conflicting application could be filed and published without your knowledge. The earlier you start, the more complete your protection.
