After an EU trademark application passes the EUIPO's examination, it is published in the EU Trade Marks Bulletin. Publication marks the beginning of the three-month opposition period, during which third parties who believe the mark conflicts with their earlier rights can file an opposition.

Publication is a mandatory step in the process. The EUIPO publishes all applications that pass examination, and the opposition period cannot be waived or shortened.
