Do I need an EU representative to file a trademark?

It depends on where you’re based.

EU residents and businesses can file directly with the EUIPO without appointing a representative. Non-EU applicants must appoint an authorized representative based in the EU or the European Economic Area (EEA) to act on their behalf in all proceedings before the EUIPO.

An authorized representative must be a qualified IP practitioner recognized by the EUIPO, typically a trademark attorney or law firm based within the EU or EEA.
