Can you add classes to an existing trademark at a later date, or will it need to be filed again?

A new application must be filed. Classes cannot be added to an existing trademark registration at any stage; the only way to extend class coverage is through a separate new filing.

The new application will be examined independently and given its own priority date. Any similar marks filed in the new class between your original application date and the new filing date will have priority over the new application in that class. For classes that represent current or near-term commercial activity, filing them at the same time as the original application is the more secure approach.
