When can I start using my trademark?

You can start using the registered trademark symbol ® only after your trademark has been successfully registered with an intellectual property office. If you want to let the outside world know you are working towards full legal protection of your brand, you can use the ™ sign since its use is not regulated.

Remember that after the registration has been completed, you'll still be able to use the ® symbol only:

  • in countries where you hold the registration, and
  • with the exact version of your mark that you registered., i.e. if you register a logo trademark which contains an icon and your brand name, you are not free to use the symbol only with the icon.
