Would a similar brand pose a threat to my trademark registration if they aren't active in my field or even close?

Any owner of a previously registered trademark in your jurisdiction can challenge your application by raising an opposition. However, the IP office will take the closeness of the sectors the two brands operate in into account and look at whether they are trying to attract the same type of customer with their goods or services.

Therefore, if this brand you found operates in a different sector, you don't have to be worried about them as it would be hard for them to prove the existence of the likelihood of confusion.
