Yes, in jurisdictions where self-filing is permitted and you hold a local domicile or business address. If you are a foreign-domiciled applicant, most jurisdictions require local legal representation for all proceedings before the IP office.

Self-representing in an opposition response carries the same risks as filing an opposition without representation: strict procedural requirements, deadlines, and evidence standards must all be met. A poorly structured defense or a missed deadline can result in the opposition being upheld by default.

Where the opposition is substantive and the mark is commercially valuable, working with a trademark attorney gives the defense the best chance of a good outcome.
