To file a trademark with the EUIPO, you don’t need extensive documentation or information. Here’s what you should prepare:
- Applicant details: your full legal name, address, and nationality or country of incorporation.
- A clear representation of the mark: for wordmarks, this is the text itself (the brand name); for figurative marks, it’s a high-quality image file of the logo.
- A list of goods and services: organized by Nice Classification class, using terminology accepted by the EUIPO.
- If colors are claimed as a distinctive element: a color description and the relevant color codes (e.g., Pantone or RGB). Most applicants prefer filing in black & white, since it protects their mark across the color spectrum, rather than just one combination.
- If priority rights are claimed: the details of the earlier application (country, filing date, application number).
- Representative details: these are required for all non-EU applicants, but remain optional for EU citizens.
One more thing to keep in mind—the filing fee must be paid at the time of submission. Otherwise, the application will not be considered as filed.
